The heart of the project took shape at the Hoopa Modular Facility, where factory-built hempcrete panels were created through a collaborative effort led by Building Lives Building Structures (BLBS) and supported by the Indigenous Habitat Institute (IHI).
Over several weeks, volunteers, students from the College of the Redwoods Construction Technology Program, and local builders came together to frame, mix, pour, and lift dozens of hempcrete wall panels.
This phase demonstrated a new model for regional, scalable fabrication of natural, fire-resistant, carbon-sequestering wall systems, showing how innovation and community collaboration can redefine what sustainable construction looks like in the Pacific Northwest.
